2007 Business Plans; Is The Internet Teaching Bad Business Skills?

Many people want to start a business of their own and often they look to the Internet to find a way. Unfortunately in doing this they misunderstand what business is really all about. Recently in consulting with a gentleman about starting a business and suggesting that he needed to develop a business plan; no sooner than I mentioned this and he was off picking a business name and registering an Internet Domain Name.
Once he did this he exclaimed I have already started. Well in reality did he really start a business or did he just buy a domain name online for $8 to $16.00? In fact he has no customers, no products, no services, nothing to sell yet. But he has a three page free-website, which came with his Domain Name. The funniest thing that happened next is he said; I need an investor. So how do I get one?
Well, can you see the problem here? The gentlemen thinks business is about setting up a website and immediately everyone will come and buy stuff from him, but the reality is that there are 5 plus Billion websites out there and why would anyone come to his brand-new three-page website, much less buy anything, which is great because he ain?t got nothing to sell any how.
You see registering domain names and getting on the Internet is not what a business is. A business is about so much more. A website for a dance studio is more about an electronic brochure than anything else. You need to focus on your business plan, not setting up a bunch of domain names and spending money right now, especially if your family is on a budget? Sure you will need a web presence eventually for your storefront or service business, but the fundamentals are also important; namely a business plan.
This should be a lesson to would be small business entrepreneurs, as it takes a lot more to run a business than just registering domain names and hoping someone will come to your website. If businesses are to succeed on the net or as a free-standing brick and mortar business, they will still need a strategic business plan.

To get started you need to run project 2 in Keyword Elite which is “Analyze PPC Competition”. Let’s use the word fishing. Insert fishing into step 2 of Keyword Elite. Then in step 3 select all the search engines. In step 4 we will leave everything as default. Then we simply click okay.
Then click on the “report view” tab of Keyword Elite. You will see a list of various keywords related to fishing. The first keyword will be the one that you input into the program. Simply click on the top keyword and you will then see that the lower frame of Keyword Elite is displaying all the websites that are bidding on that exact keyword on either Google, Yahoo, Miva and also Enhance which are the major PPC search engines.
If you look at the very bottom of Keyword Elite you will notice that there are a variety of tabs. Click on any of these tabs to view the websites advertising in these search engines. If you click on “view all” you will see all the search engines listed together.
It is important to bear in mind that Google and Yahoo both don’t allow anyone to see exactly what each website is bidding. This is not a fault of Keyword Elite but a policy of both of those organizations. At this point in time these bid amounts will be left blank. However, they will be incorporated into Keyword Elite if their policies change in the future.
